How might RIT advertise their event that speaks to the technological and artistic mastery of the university, and attracts all ages?
Each May, RIT students across all disciplines showcase their most exciting, engaging, and technologically ground-breaking work in a day-long festival called Imagine RIT. To promote the event, RIT posts 500+ Imagine RIT posters around the Rochester community.
Besides RIT students, the bulk of ImagineRIT attendants are Rochester residents. Imagine RIT is not targetted to an esoteric audience. Quite the opposite: it is an event for the ordinary person who wishes to explore, intrigue her (his) imagination, and expand his (her) mind. This attracts children, especially, and accompanying parents or guardians.
The Imagine RIT poster design must exhibit a magical simplicity that children may digest, but contain a greater or deeper sense of interest to attract adults
With the target audience in mind, I want to create a design that will appeal deeply to a child’s sense of curiosity and excitement. However, the design must also catch the attention of adults. Like The Lion King (or any other great kid movie), the design must cater to the simplicity that children may digest, but contain a greater or deeper sense of interest to attract adults.
I’m going for a fun, playful, and mildly kiddish look! In light of the quirky, playful, scientific spirit that is central to ImagineRIT, I wanted to include tons of gadgets: all kinds of hi-tech looking gears, pulleys, switches, dials, tubes, and pipes.
I want to spell out “Imagine RIT” in letter forms comprised of the hi-tech looking gears, pulleys, switches, dials, tubes, and pipes I mention earlier. The idea is that all the letters will connect. So the letters, in totality, will represent a quirky, silly scientific experiment. I hope for the fun forms and shapes will appeal to children. For adults, the poster warrants a second look. The looker may follow the process scientific liquid would take, through the first letter to the ending.
